James Holland, lute & theorbo

Having once been on a rather different musical path as an electric bass-guitarist in Australia, James Holland has wandered far from home in more ways than one.  Now based in Paris and working freelance throughout Europe, he traded his rock and roll life for that of a wandering lute and theorbo player – although life with a theorbo is perhaps not so far removed from that with a bass guitar.
After graduating with honours as a classical guitarist from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2003, James went on to study earlier instruments in Den Haag with Nigel North, Joachim Held and Mike Fentross, and took further lessons with Hopkinson Smith and Elizabeth Kenny.
